For the first time ever we are having two knit-alongs in one month. Mondays are dedicated to the Ranunculus and Wednesdays are for the Wave of Change Jacket. The Wave of Change Jacket is an excellent little cover up in the summer or winter. It was designed for chunky weight yarn and works equally well in linen as it does in wool. We recommend organic yarns from Quince & Co: Kestrel for a gorgeous summer version or Puffin for a lightweight yet warm winter version. The designer Denyse Byron created this cardigan to be all inclusive and to encourage a welcoming spirit in the knit community. This cardigan is gender neutral and has a large range of sizes with modification notes to make it just right for you.

Also for the first time ever, we are incorporating a book to go with our knit-along. In the spirit of looking at our unconscious biases, the way we exist in a system that supports white people and suppresses black people, and recognizing that time is now to educate ourselves, we invite you to read (or listen to the audiobook) White Fragility this month. This powerful book explores the counter-productive reactions white people have when their assumptions about race are challenged and how these reactions maintain racial inequality. This is surely not an "easy" path of self inquiry, which is why we felt that going into this together with the grounding practice of knitting would help ease us into this deep conversation with support. Our knitting circle is a safe place to be vulnerable, to share, and to listen. We are not perfect, but we are interested in growing. Let's do this together.

Every month we like to start a new knit-a-long project at Cattywampus. There's no instructor for knit-alongs, although we will always have someone who is knitting it along with you so that you can lean on each other. It's a chance to enjoy knitting a common project along with others. Our official KAL meetups are on Wednesday afternoons 4-6 pm, but you are welcome to knit anytime and at your own pace. Our gatherings are virtual these days. Join us on Zoom meeting ID 285 808 696.
