Cashmere really does make everything better. It's so silky soft and lofty loveliness that touching it makes you feel happy and cared for. We've had so many people ask us to carry cashmere in recent months. This is our welcome party for our newest yarns. Please say hello to these three scrumptious Mongolian cashmere yarns by Jade Sapphire: 4-ply (DK - hand-dyed), Genghis (chunky - hand-spun, thick/thin, hand-dyed), and Aaah! (DK - brushed fibers with fluffy halo, natural colors). For our Wednesday knit-along gathering in March, you're invited to knit with any (or all) of these luscious yarns! We've selected some patterns to kick things off - ranging from one to three skeins, total beginner to intermediate knitter. Pick one to start with and join us!
Seed Stitch Cowl or Scarf - beginner
1 or 3 skeins Genghis Cashmere
The nubby texture of seed stitch - a simple combination of altering knits and purls - is a perfect pattern for Genghis cashmere. The thick/thin nature of this hand-spun yarn is highlighted by the stitches and comes together super quickly on big size US 15 needles. You will probably end up wanting to knit more than one of these!
Hipster Hat - advanced beginner
1-2 skeins 4-ply Cashmere
If you're looking for the perfect beanie, this is it! Make it long enough for a double fold with extra warmth or short for a stylish watch-cap version. The deep 2 x 2 rib pattern beautifully shows off the subtle hand-dyed colors and tight ply of this gorgeous yarn.
Zamira Shawl - intermediate
3-4 skeins Aaah! Cashmere
This large triangle shaped shawl can be wrapped around the neck several times. The size is quite flexible... knit until you run out of yarn! The one-color brioche pattern allows you to knit the entire shawl without a single purl stitch. Due to the asymmetrical shape, you don't have to count much either. Easy breezy brioche! The rhythmic pattern is feminine and really a joy to knit.
Every month we like to start a new knit-along project at Cattywampus. These are fun, casual gatherings with the support of our resident knit pro Jody James and a gaggle of fellow knitters. It's a chance to enjoy knitting a common project along with others. It's not really a class, so you should have some knit skills already. If you want to knit along with us, but need extra help, then please contact us to schedule a private lesson (in person or virtually). All are welcome at our knit-along gatherings though! Our official knit-along meetups for this project are on Wednesday afternoons 4-6 pm, but you are welcome to knit anytime and at your own pace. Our gatherings are virtual so that we can be together wherever we are!
